Chiang Rai is characterized by a tropical wet and dry climate with warm winters and slightly warmer summers. Rainfall experienced is seasonal but the temperature variations are not too major. Average annual temperature is around 24 – 25 degree Celsius.
Rainy Season: A lot of rainfall can be expected in the months of May to October. August is usually the wettest month of the year. Temperature is around 26 – 27 degree Celsius and doesn’t vary much.
Dry Season: November to April is almost rainless, with only a few surprise showers in between. The temperature may drop down to 20 degree Celsius in January and February, but remains the same rest of the year.
The best time to visit Chiang Rai is during the cooler winter months which are almost rainless. This ensures that the weather is not very humid and it is easy to go outdoors for sightseeing. The rainy season is an off season and a visit should be avoided in those months.
