Cañon Del Sumidero is a beautiful and deep natural canyon whose rocks are said to have started to form nearly 136 million years ago based on the calcium minerals and the sediments that is formed there with the action of a few marine animals. The canyon was formed due to the tectonic movements and is surrounded by the Sumidero Canyon National Park. The park’s vegetation is mostly deciduous rainforest consisting of small areas of grassland and mixed pine-oak forest. The beautiful scenery of Cañon Del Sumidero attracts a lot of tourists and Grijalva River’s navigable portion is sued so as to ferry visitors there. There are various lookout points and the beauty of the canyon is enhanced by the waterfalls.
