Most games are free! Hands down the best arcade bar I've been to. The machines were in good shape and you don't have to keep plunking quarters it tokens into them. You spend your money at the bar. Only a couple of the fancy newer machines required a dollar. When the Star Wars pinball are my dollar bill, they fixed it right away and gave me an extra credit.
There are free games... But I have no idea why the door staff is so uptight. I had visited this location a year ago and it was much more relaxed. They checked id's, bags, made me throw out a nice new bottle of water. Wait staff was nice, but overwhelmed. They definitely need more help with a Friday evening crowd. The entree selection is OK, don't order the fried grilled cheese- it's basically a slab of cheese on a pita bread with arugula and tomatoes drowned I'm olive oil.
You'll have to wait at the bar on a Friday night but they have a great beer selection and some really tasty food. If it's your first time be aware that the games are all free so feel free to play anything and everything. Again you may have to wait on the busier nights. Also you may want to call in advance as one time they were closed due to a private party. Not sure how often that happens but once was enough for me.
Definitely one of the coolest "bar" experiences I have ever been to! In fairness, I was here for a wedding, and a package they offer event is an open bar for guests for four hours, so that made it super easy on the wallet. Even so, the mixed drinks, and craft beer selection were amazing. Personally had something called the "Hungry Hungry Hipster" which I believe is one of their house specialties. Pay attention to the bartender as they make it. Quite the show! Also, one of the very few non brewery tasting room locations I've been to where the bartenders do tap pours properly. They DID NOT put the tap spout into the beer as they were pouring it. So stoked about that! Tells me they are trained very well.
After going here a few times, I have a few points about this place for first-time visitors. First of all, all the games are free, which is great! The service at the bar is also really good and they are quick with making drinks and closing out tabs. I prefer the area downstairs (when it's open) because there are lounging areas and, in my opinion, better games. One thing I've noticed is that it's been getting more and more crowded, so if you actually want to go and play games with friends, you will probably be separated, rather than in a group. And there's nowhere to put your stuff (so no coat check in the winter, which sucks). I suggest going earlier in the night, rather than later when the crowds come in. In my experience, I've only encountered maybe 4 or 5 games that were out of order, which is a pretty good number compared to Emporium. All of this said, Headquarters is still a fun, inexpensive place to play games and drink with your friends. And the pinball machines are where it's at, tbh. TL;DR Free games, good service, no coat check, crowded, games less likely to break down than Emporium.
