Crater Lake, Chiloquin Reviews
So lucky to live less than 45 minutes to this beautiful National Park. If you want to take the boat tour which leaves from the North shore of the lake, be sure to make your reservations early, very early, otherwise you will regret not having done so. Plan to spend a whole day, there are many different sites to see that will take up your time if you try to see or do them all. I recommend the hike up Mt. Scott.
Well worth the drive to get there. Park fee is $25 or free with a NP Pass. Get in early or you’ll end up queuing for quite some time. This early in the year there isn’t much open so don’t expect any tours or ranger guided events. The visitor information and the Rim Village Cafe & Gift Shop are open but food options are limited. Check before you go as the weather may change quickly and roads may become covered in snow again. The ring road is still closed this early in the year so you can’t really drive around all that much. On a perfect day like we had, the view across the lake is truly amazing and the white piles of snow just add to the whole picture. Check out the movie at the visitor center. It takes just 20 minutes and will give you an idea of how the lake came to be. Highly recommended!
I've visited Crater Lake National Park more than 20 times, but I always find something new on each trip. The water in this lake is blue, even more blue than you could imagine. Take the rim drive around the caldera for breathtaking views of the lake and the steep sides of the caldera. Hike up Mt Scott for views of the lake and surrounding area. Hike Cleetwood Cove trail down into the caldera and right to the water's edge. The water in this lake is as clear as the sky above. Crater Lake is a beautiful park to visit with much to see and do. I could easily spend an entire summer in the park but still wouldn't see it all. One of my favorite areas is Boundary Springs. Most may not know this is the headwaters of the Rogue river. Naturally beautiful!
We loved coming here in early October. It was busy, but not overwhelming so. What a hauntingly beautiful place. It's just one huge lake, so you'd think it would get boring but it was actually one if our favorite national park visits. The wind can be nasty, so bring some warmer clothes, rain jacket, etc. Worth the trip from Seattle!
Quite a fascinating site to see if you're passing through as a tourist or even worth traveling out of your way to visit. It's an absolute must visit location in the beautiful state of Oregon.
