Built in 1998, the Chaotianmen Square is another prime location in Chongqing, one where you can appreciate the beauty of the two great rivers Yangtze and Jialing meeting each other. The ship shaped square covers an area of 80 thousand square metres and forms a major location for sightseeing and transportation. The Chaotianmen Gate was built during the early Ming Dynasty.

The Chongqing square is especially beautiful after sunset with the cool winds blowing and the city lights shining. The area is filled with people and booming with commerce during this time with food stalls and local shops selling other wares adding texture and colour to the environment. One can walk down to the port and enjoy the gorgeous view of various cruise ships and boats docked by the bank, the churning river waters and engage in a simple leisurely walk along the river or a boat ride. Quite nearby is an Exhibition Centre where one can see a large scale model Chongqing and its suburbs and hills.
