At 345 metres the Louqat Hill Park is the highest point in the city of Chongqing. Till the 1950 the Louqat Hill Park also known as the Pipashan Park was a private garden. Today the small, lovely garden has turned into an important landmark for sightseeing and interacting.
The Pipashan got its name from a native folklore based in the Pipa village. According to the tale, a girl from the village would climb the hill and play the lute to express her sorrow. Today, a statue representing the girl playing the lute stands in the park. The park has a Red Star pavilion from where one can gain a bird’s eye view of the entire city and the two mighty rivers, namely Yangtze and Jialing. The view is especially beautiful after sunset when the city truly comes alive.
Lovely Loquat trees decorate the park which is beautifully manicured. The park witnesses all kinds of people – old, young, tourists, and locals. Everyone enjoys coming to the park to exercise, take a walk, playing cards or simply to have a cup of tea. The park also has a small pond with tiny fishes swimming about.
