  • Such a wonderful time to be had by both young & old here, from observing all of the planes on display through to the behind-the-scenes tour (which is a MUST DO) this museum is beautifully displayed and is a true asset to the city. The staff are passionate and willing to share their expansive knowledge of the history that lies both in the museum itself and the displays. Ensure you have several hours at least to truly take it all in, and try the Flight Simulator for an amazing experience at what it was like to fly some of these planes! Thanks for a great time, we will be back!

  • By far the best attraction Christchurch has for children. Fantastic atmosphere, very friendly staff and lots of seating available. They even have free chargers for phones!! Lots of areas for kids to explore, the dark hangers with the aircraft is really something else if you're not used to it! Well worth a look if you're in town or passing through

  • Great time out for the family. Expect to spend about 2 hours there. Our guide Don was amazing and his inside knowledge made the difference. The flight simulator was a lot of fun. The exhibitions of WWII fighters (Spitfire, Mustang and Avenger) are great. There is a bit maintenance going on with the replacement of their exhibition hall roof.

  • A great museum. Far more than we expected. The displays are modern and right up to date. Many of the team worked on the airbase while it was active so can offer great insights. Free entry, however the museum operates mostly from donations so they are encouraged.

  • I guess my 4-stars only rating comes from the fact I saw the Canterbury Museum (5-stars) right before this one so my expectations were high. This is a very good museum with lot's of good stuff and information, but I probably expected more exhibits and a bit less text. Also they were in a process of rebuilding a few exhibitions so half of hangars weren't open. However it's still a good plece to visit especially with kids.
