Mount Sunday, Christchurch Reviews

  • Top South Island spot. A most special place. Worth the extra effort to get into the Mt Potts and Rangitata Valley.

  • One of the most beautiful places on the South Island of NZ. This was the site that displayed Edoras and surroundings in the Lord of the Rings movies and except for Edoras itself this place exactly looks like in the movies. You almost expect the Rohirim ride around the next hill. The best time to visit could be fall (I visited end of May) when the surrounding mountains are already snowcapped. This combined with the brown grass gives a great contrast that is so typical for the eastern parts of the Southern Alps.

  • This is where the scene featuring Edoras from The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers was filmed. Only accessible with some tour operators from Christchurch, it's a real magical excursion behind the scene of the movie. The place was used for other different scenes of the movie : the pains of Rohan and Helm's Deep.

  • Beautiful mount and great views. An extremely relaxing and peaceful area

  • U need to love it if yer Gona come out to this place...edoras country....lotr.....
