The US people witnessed a lot of deforestation during the 19th century when trees were randomly being cut to fulfill the increasing needs for timber and other purposes. Slowly there was not more than 2-3 trees. After this a farmer took away this barren land to make it his orchard but later gave it away to the state.
The state took very effective initiatives to start one of the earliest forest restoration programmes. This was opened in the year 1911 and the place was later in 2010 listed into the list of National Historic Landmarks Register.

Mount Airy Forest Reviews & Ratings
Our visit to the My. Airy/Doris Day dog park was much better than the last time. The grass had been mowed in the small dog area and not just the large dog area. You can tell that it's maintained because even the bathrooms were clean as usual. There's are shady areas on both sides for the humans. We love this park and always make a point of visiting when we're in the area.
Nice trails. Would be nice to have maps or one on a board you can take a pic of. You definitely want to do those stone steps going down not up. Lol
Great park with an Amazing Disc Golf Course! Well maintained. Lots of parking and places to have a picnic. Lots of trails I haven't had a chance to explore yet.
Pretty cool place, yes there are parts of the park that could use some TLC if you want to look for the negatives. The positive side of the park is there are a lot of things to do, walking, relaxing etc. Looking for a cool place for a Saturday afternoon take a look for yourself and see what you think.
I love how their is a small dog park but the bigger area welcomes all dog sizes. Everyone is really nice and actually looks after their dogs. This location is definitely one of my favorite dog parks.
