The US people witnessed a lot of deforestation during the 19th century when trees were randomly being cut to fulfill the increasing needs for timber and other purposes. Slowly there was not more than 2-3 trees. After this a farmer took away this barren land to make it his orchard but later gave it away to the state.
The state took very effective initiatives to start one of the earliest forest restoration programmes. This was opened in the year 1911 and the place was later in 2010 listed into the list of National Historic Landmarks Register.
