Originating as a Beaux-Arts style renovation by architect, Harry Brownback in 1903, the Colonial Theatre was first home to traveling vaudeville acts, live stage shows and musicals. The first stage show, "The Beauty Doctor", debuted in 1903 starring, Fred E. Wright. In 1915, Mary Pickford visited the theatre and Harry Houdini held a performance, freeing himself from a safe in 1917. Silent films, usually accompanied by a live piano, were shown at the theatre from 1903 until 1928, when The Jazz Singer, the first "talkie" debuted. The building changed ownership many times over the following decades, but its use, serving as both a movie house and live show venue remained throughout.

  • Awesome local theater. With the new renovations, it really turned things around. The smaller theater in the basement is super cozy. It has a home theater vibe with a super professional set up. I wish they had more new release movies though.

  • Great old-time theater, including a balcony and organ for occasional silent films. Home of the annual BlobFest event each July which is a blast. Great films shown, including 1st run movies, classic flicks on Sundays, kids matinees on Saturdays, cult films, and tours of the facility. Recently, an expansion opened up the old bank building next door. The beautiful space includes a concession counter that serves beer and wine along with the popcorn, candy, and soda, 2 new theaters, and a second floor/rooftop terrace for events such as weddings etc. The original theater, which also has great sound for concerts, is pending renovation. Overall, this place is a gem and a centerpiece of Phoenixville's revitalization into one of PA's Most Happening Places".

  • My family and I were here for the annual Blobfest movie festival. The staff was just unbelievable. First, they let us use a 2 year old credit, which we had because wee couldn't attend in 2015 due to illness. Amazing! The staff also told us that the balcony was open & more family friendly than the main floor. Wow, thanks! We were sitting in movie history. We will return!

  • Love that the Colonial Theater has expanded into the Bank of the Arts building. Very nice facility, and love that they keep the local community thriving and connected downtown!

  • Great theatre! W recently attended a concert and plan to be back for movies and other events as we are members.
