A little ahead of Coffs Harbour lays the wondrous island by the name of Muttonbird Island. Considered to the best mini day trips you can take from Coffs Harbour, the island is named after the bird species that are found here in abundance, especially from late August to early April. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see some baby muttonbirds. There’s a 500 meter walk to the top of the trail where the vistas are so much more than the walk.

  • A wonderful walk during mutton bird incubation period. The walk is initially quite steep. It is paved the whole way. Not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Many bicycle out to the start and leave their bikes at the beginning. We sighted two dolphins during the walk. Family friendly. Ensure you have own water.

  • Phenomenal tourist attraction overlooking the sea. An easy trek to the hilltop that takes about 15 mins for a slow climber. Three 360° views are stunning both at sunrise and sunset with the sea on one side, beach on the backside and the wharf on the other side. Absolute must-visit if one is in Coffs Harbour.

  • Beautiful location. You can get a 360 deg view of the Harbour. Bit of a walk from the marina to the lookout spot on the edge of the island, but definitely worth a visit.

  • Visit to Coffs Harbour isn't complete if you haven’t been to Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve.  The short walk up the green and rugged cliff face island gives you incredible views of the coast.  It is also great for bird lovers, as you can see plenty of mutton bird nests from the walking track.

  • It is an excellent place with fantastic 360 degree views of the jetty beach marina and the ocean about an hours walk
