Kovai Kutralam is a beautiful nature spot having a bustling waterfall as its backdrop. Located on the Western Ghat mountain range, it is situated around 35 kilometres from Coimbatore. The Siruvani dam is situated just above this waterfall. Falling under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department, Kovai Kutralam area is clean and well maintained. Permission has to be sought at the entrance from the forest officials to visit the falls. Pack some snacks and head over for a fun day at the waterfalls.
A half an hour’s drive from Coimbatore takes you to this beautiful temple. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Vinayagar (Ganapati). Legend goes that when the Vinayaga idol (measuring 6 feet high and 3 feet wide) was being transported from Madurai in a cart for installation at Patteeswarar Temple, Perur, the axle of the cart broke and it got stuck in the place where it is now. Efforts to remove the idol to Perur did not materialize. Thus, till today, this is the place where the lord resides and is called Eachanari (according to one’s own wishes) Vinayaga Temple for the same reasons.
