This church is the second famous religious establishment bordering the Praca de Comercio (the first is Igreja de São Tiago). First constructed in the 10th century, then rebuilt in the 12th, and then revamped again in the 18th, this is a rather simple building by the standards of Baroque architecture. The main highlights are the two bell towers flanking a portal, a gilded altarpiece with a painting of the patron saint, and a Mannerist retable with a painting of the Death and Resurrection of Christ. It’s not the biggest or the grandest church in the city, but it’s long history makes it worth a quick stop.
