Monastery Of Celas - Review

The Cistercian monastery was established in the 13th century by the daughter of King Sancho I, Infanta D. Sancha. The current structure of the church was established in the 16th church. The last modifications to its appearance were carried out in the 18th century. It still has some Romanesque Gothic elements though. Inside the church, see the Manueline vault, Renaissance and Mannerist arches, and Baroque altarpieces. As such, the monastery and the church have a wonderful mix of features from various periods through history. Excitingly, this monastery has a passage that was once secret, a tunnel that exited where the Hotel Meliá Confort now stands.

Monastery Of Celas, Coimbra Reviews

  • Lugar bastante calmo e um marco histórico considerável . Poderia receber uma manutenção ! Fui muito bem recebido , por simpáticas senhoras !!! Recomendo despretensiosamente !

  • Este mosteiro permanece como um dos mais importantes monumentos históricos de Coimbra !

  • Local bonito mas abandonado. Mal sinalizado e com pessoas grosseiras cuidando do local.
