The 16th century palace built in Mannerist style in which this museum is housed is known as Colégio da Sapiência. It used to function as a church too, and you can still see the Chapel of the Misericórdia. The exhibition in inside the museum focuses mostly on religious art - paintings, portraits of the brotherhood, altarpieces, furniture, pianos, processionals, tapestries, and books. Check out the architecture too, especially the stucco ceilings in the Sessions rooms. But for most visitors the best part of this attraction is the clock tower. The layout of the museum is bright but austere. Climb its steps for one of the best views of the city from its very heart.
