Before starting a tour of any city, it’s usually best to first visit the city museum for an insight into the city’s character. Before you enter the historic building, from the street, see the red wrought ironwork on the exterior. Inside, the major exhibits are:

• Telo de Morais Collection: Donated to the city, it a fascinating exhibit of 19th and 20th century Portuguese painting, furniture, metalworks, decorative arts, ceramics, and sculpture
• Torre de Almedina: Núcleo da Cidade Muralhada exhibit that focuses on the old wall of the city
• Louzã Henriques Collection: A collection of musical instruments in the Tourist Gallery

Temporary exhibitions are held in the ground floor of the museum. Check the museum website for upcoming exhibitions.

Chiado Building (Telo de Morais Collection):

• Saturdays: 10am-1pm and 2pm-6pm

Torre de Almedina (Nucleus of the Muralhada City):

• Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Closed on Sunday, Monday and public holidays.

Tourism Gallery (Louzã Henriques Collection):

• Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Closed on Sunday, Monday and public holidays.
