National Zoological Gardens Of Sri Lanka - Review
Opened in 1936, the zoo has a lot of assets packed into a mere 10 hectares. There are at least 3000 animals, representing at least 300 species in total. The exhibits are quite straightforward, and divided into several sections. These are Primates (16 kinds of monkeys), Birds (flamingos, swans, ostriches, aquatic birds, migratory birds, raptors), a butterfly garden with 245 different species, an elephant area, about 32 species of reptiles including pythons, crocodiles and turtles, and Hoofed Animals (giraffes, zebras, rhinos, deer). Kids will love the petting area.

National Zoological Gardens Of Sri Lanka, Colombo Reviews
One of the best Zoo. So natural. Some of the birds are not in cage, but they are there. Seeing the zoo during Rain is a outstanding movement in our life. we could see most of the animal, very near. even we can feed to 5 colored parrot. I have added lot of photos. Come and see and enjoy.
Decided to pay a visit to our zoo a few days ago, after so many years. Managed to capture a few pictures of these majestic creatures, many of which do not deserve to be caged up in such confined areas, as opposed to their natural habitats in the wild. Most of them are locked away for our own amusement, while a few are kept enclosed due to problems faced by the extinction of their species, again, mostly due to the recklessness of humans. That being said, it was a rare opportunity to see these animals with my own eyes and gaze upon their beauty.
Good place. But should make more accessible to wheel chair. And move direction signs could be better. Staff should be trained more in sales. (At the end of the round we came to know about availability of buggies. If we were told at entrance about that service we would have taken it).
In Dehiwala National Zoological Garden, you can see a lot of native and foreign species of animals. Mammals, reptiles, birds, butterflies, fish etc. It is a large area and you will require at least 3-4 hours to watch it fully. A museum of animals is recently introduced there. It is a good place to spend some hours, especially for children. But it is not much recommended for an 'animal lover', since the animals there are not very well treated. The cages are not enough for most of animals and they are not well maintained. You might see the desperation on animals' faces if you look closely.
they have newly added few cages for lions and tigers. also you can get a Golf Cart to go all around the zoo and drivers explain about the animals. Good experience enjoyed.
