Dehiwala zoological garden one of the very good attractions in Colombo for the locals. Of course many foreigners do visit this place. The place looks very nice n clean with great mammals, like elephant lion tiger bear giraffe zebra n so many. Undoubtedly it would give an authentic experience to the local kids. However, as personal feel somewhat the location n standard measures needs to be elevated to international level to meet the tourists expectations. Wish the authorities can take a great step ahead. Wish them for their commitment n success.
Colombo Dehiwala Zoo: Founded in 1936, its over 80 years old and has around 3000 animals and 350 bird species. The zoo has been designed with clear demarcations that you need to follow to ensure you don’t miss any beast. It is also in the process of renovation to meet global zoological standards. What we liked best was- the zoo was clean with lots of huge trees around, it had a cafeteria for lunch and other snacks, an enclosure for birds that you could actually walk into where macaw’s, parakeets and other smaller birds flew around freely. The park also has free WiFi, clean and well-lit toilets, a souvenir shop and a kids play area
Nice place to spend time whole learning something. Good place to give practical exposure. Improve how animals are treated. Specially those in reptile section and animals from colder climates.
Best place to visit with kids in the week ends now they have new policy no plastic zone so you better not to take single use plastic items as well not to litter every where. Food is bit expensive so you better take your own food and water you can buy snaks and ice cream from there Lot of animal verities are there to watch
Lovely zoo in the middle of the city! Didn't expect much, but was surprised to see so many animals and birds. You can easily spend 2-4 hours here. The aviary is amazing.
