National Zoological Gardens Of Sri Lanka - Review

Opened in 1936, the zoo has a lot of assets packed into a mere 10 hectares. There are at least 3000 animals, representing at least 300 species in total. The exhibits are quite straightforward, and divided into several sections. These are Primates (16 kinds of monkeys), Birds (flamingos, swans, ostriches, aquatic birds, migratory birds, raptors), a butterfly garden with 245 different species, an elephant area, about 32 species of reptiles including pythons, crocodiles and turtles, and Hoofed Animals (giraffes, zebras, rhinos, deer). Kids will love the petting area.

  • Since Childhood it’s an amazing place for all time adventures. They recently add the Fish Therapy at their Aquarium Entrance. Try it up guys it’s really good experience. Anytime can recommend for family, friends & couples too. They’ve been updated, the new Bengal Tiger Tempered Glass Cage was awesome. It make the feel like being with the BigCats. Don’t miss to try the Fish Therapy there. Expecting more new things and maintenance service. Good luck.

  • I live 800 meters from the zoo. Yet I've only visited it countable times. Aquarium needs more improvement, rather I've had more fish varieties in my aquarium than the zoo 😊. Good settings. Needs improvement in guidance, kind of confusing after number 11. Floor plan is superb. Elephant show is mesmerizing. Sea lions are really fun. Overall one great experience. If you visit please make sure you throw garbage in the bin.

  • Situated about 10km away from the heart of Colombo city, this is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Asia. This zoo has a good diversity and a substantial collection of worldwide animals. It has a dense tree coverage with well landscaped gardens, arched bridges where you can walk over with animal enclosure, etc. The zoo hosts elephant performance sessions according to a predefined timetable. If you have young children, I recommend you take them to see this. Improvement suggestions: 1. Improve the overall cleanliness a little bit more. 2. Cages for some large animals such as elephants and rhinos could be made a little bigger.

  • Good zoo. Could be maintained a bit better. Otherwise the view is good. You get a good long walk as well. The visit inside the bird cage, the up close view of the turtles, tigers and lions, the bear etc... are some of visual treats you get here. Tickets for localities is 100 and twice or thrice for foriegn nationals. Its a 2-3 hour activity. Best time to visit would be in the evening when the animals are all up and about.

  • The zoo has so many incredible collection of animals from all over the world. Efforts made to increase the home space of animals during the time to time renovations are highly appreciated. However facilities provided for some animals were not satisfactory. Also has an aquarium that has some cool stuff in. Further tours can be done by golf carts on hire at the entrance.
