About Old Dutch Hospital, Colombo

As the name suggests, a former hospital of the Dutch, this colonial era complex is now rejuvenated to become a city centre of Colombo. Centrepiece of the newly vibrant Fort, this construction dates back to the early 1600s. The unyielding architecture astonishes the on-lookers and is an ideal hang out in the evenings.

Lavishly restored, it is home to shops, cafes and restaurants run by some of Colombo’s best operators. Enjoy a pause for a cold drink amid the incredibly thick columns of its arcades.

  • Have been there since it's opening many times. Excellent place to chill with family and friends. Nice Ambience as well. Slipknot is the best band and superb every time I have listened to them. For a weekday or weekend evening the best place in Colombo to meetup over drinks. Highly recommend.

  • What a nice place to have a cool time with your loved once. There are so many types of stores all over here. You can buy foods and drinks and can have them on outdoor seats. It is such a beautiful view it gives in evening. Specially with a cool or hot drink it will make more awesome. Specially this is Christmas season neh, so there are so many beautiful Christmas decorations all over the place. Specially there are food fests through out every months. Try that out too...

  • A must visit if you are in Colombo and a foodie. A heritage building with modern vibes. Spend some time over a meal or a drink especially sitting out in corridor as you soak in the atmosphere

  • This was built as a hospital by the Dutch in 1681 to look after the health of officers and other staff serving under the Dutch East India Company. The hospital's close proximity to the harbor allowed it to serve Dutch seafarers. Over the years, this has been used for several different purposes (Colombo Fort Police station, Colombo apothecary, etc.). In 1996, It suffered heavy damage from the LTTE attack that followed the Central Bank bombing and in 2011, it was transformed into a shopping and dining precinct, preserving it's historic architecture. Today, this is a prominent venue facilitated with a number of bars, restaurants and shops, that also provides a great view of the city.
