About Pettah Floating Market, Colombo
A lot of hype went into the construction and opening of this market. It was kind of worth it. There idea behind this market was two-fold. One, to create a tourist interest. And two, to relocate the unlicensed vendors congesting up the area around Pettah. As a result you have about 92 trade stores selling everything from shoes, clothes, electronics, appliances, cheap jewellery, fruits and veggies and so on. There is also an excellent food court. In the weekends, you can rent a boat to take out into the water. It is a very tastefully decorated and intelligently designed space, welcoming and lively, always decorated with flowers, the promenade lined with trees and benches. It may be one of the best hangouts in the city.
Which is why it is unfortunate that thanks to the close proximity of the Beira lake, you can't get away from the terrible spell of pollution of algae. All the locals have learnt to tolerate it. You shall too.

Pettah Floating Market, Colombo Reviews
I was looking forward to going to Pettah floating market on our trip to Sri Lanka. We reached there around 3:30 in the afternoon. It is not a good time since it was quite warm. But once you enter the market, it was somewhat cooler. Quite a few shops remained closed in the afternoon. Lots of the open shops were selling clothes mostly cotton. They were quite good but the prices were high. Of course, just like any market, you must be really good in bargaining. You can get some good stuff in floating market. The ambience of the place has the old world charm.
This place is called the Floating market it does not float like in other countries, but it is situated surrounded by The Beira lake. This place has many restaurants & shops with a variety of stuff for sale. The place has not been maintained well due to lack of customers. People enjoyed visiting this place at first due to its novel idea. Good for relaxation, as the place is comparatively cheap, compared to city prices.
I love it. This is a quiet place. You can get a quick dinner or breakfast lunch here. And it's on the sea its floating. This is a market feel with foods and it's a restaurant and it has a supermarket. They receive credit cards also. I love it
Nice work, renovate a garbage place into the nice environmental friendly place. Very busy place cozy this is by the Bus Stop. part of the floating market also used as Bus stop. Filled with local shops and restaurant. There was Duck Boat riding. Now it is not functional. Wheelchair accessible not accessible.
The place is quite calm and serene. The best place to refresh your journey. It's good to keep this place clean and safe as it's a needed refreshing place for Colombo hustle - bustle city life...
