Usually Hindu temples explore with color. Not this one. It's a little surprising to see. The whole temple is made from grey granite from South India. The only splash of color on the outside are the bright palm trees lining the avenue to the entrance. As you enter, you'll see the color scheme on the inside is identical. But instead of palm trees, it's the vivid orange of garlands strung across demure looking statues inside their individual alcoves. The temple is at its liveliest during the annual january harvest festival of Thai Pongal, when Hindu devotees throng the place.
The temple is named after Gate Mudaliyar Arunachalam Ponnambalam, who began building the temple in 1856, and fell ill and passed away during his services to it.

Saivava samayam temple at colombo its call kallu kovil (sivan kovil)
One of highly regarded shrines (Kovil) among the Hindu community in Sri lanka. This place is visited by both Hindu and non-hindu people for worshipping great Shiva God. The shrine is built entirely using granite and it is huge is size. It resembles a great deal of cultural value as well as holiness to anyone who would visit the place. Make sure to leave your shoes and slippers outside before entering the premises as it is rude to wear shoes or slippers to such holy grounds.
Peace and Serenity. The architecture is just magnificent. The temple is huge and you could spend a good hour or so !! #natnzin
