The National Museum Of Colombo - Review
Under the soothing shade of magnificent Banyan trees stands Sri Lanka’s premier cultural institution- the Colombo national museum. To greet you on your ingress is a Buddha carved in stone which dates back to the 9th century and the enigmatic smile of the statue will surely mesmerize you.
The galleries displaying a huge collection of arts, carvings and statuary, a peek through the ancient past of the country is easily possible. Developed and maintained for about 150 years now, this gallery has rare findings not only from the antique era but also swords, guns and other paraphernalia from the colonial period.
There are fascinating 19th-century reproductions of English paintings of Sri Lanka, and an excellent collection of antique demon masks. The magnificent royal throne made for King Wimaladharma in 1693 as well as the 9th-century bronze Bodhisattva Sandal are a must-watch.

The National Museum Of Colombo, Colombo Reviews
Housed in a beautiful old mansion, the Colombo National Museum is definitely worth a visit. Each room has a different collection of artifacts, beginning with pre-history and ending with a farming/agricultural models. These two are probably the least interesting, although the models are quite lifelike compared to some we've encountered in other countries. The weapons, clothing and costumes, jewelry, pottery, ivory, stone statuary and a fine collection of stone urinals kept us engaged for some time.
A beautiful old mansion with historical elements. If you are fond of history and archeology, this is the place. It has 16 different sessions with archeological finding, painting, statues etc. You can spend a minimum half day in the museum rushing through... However if your very observant it might take your whole day too. A must visit.
Divers exhibition. You can get tired while going through all the rooms. It would help to have the option to sit down at any point. There are also no toilets available in the building, you have to exit to reach them. The exhibition is informative and provides a good picture of the rich history of the country
Must visit place in Colombo of you are interested in history. Outside area is clean and well maintained. Cafeteria is not very good. Haven't had good impression when I got there. About the inside of the museum is very interesting. There are very large area to be covered. 15 areas are available to watch. Better to start early if you want to visit all of them. Take time and read descriptions to get better knowledge.
Interesting place. But it needs more improvements. There are many boards to read rather than seeing things. Kind of hated after a while. Gave me a feeling of repetition of sculptures. Kids won't enjoy much, as even the adults rarely do.
