Catamount State Forest Reviews & Ratings
Quiet. Tranquil. Relaxing.
Awesome place to go for a hike and enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately there aren't many trail maps available (in print or online), but popular paths can be located via Strava Heat Maps or other hiking/trail apps. The old schoolhouse monument is very interesting, as are the remnants of cellar holes and rock walls (around the southern half of the forest). McLeod Island has beautiful views, but don't expect to find much else on it. Expect to tackle some hills (there isn't much flat land around here) and definitely pack a lot of bug spray in the summer.
Beautiful place to hike with a dog
Great place to go for a hike. Lots of trails and very quiet.
It was the best. I loved camping here until they opened the gate. Now the drunk rednecks can drive right up to the pond. They are there every weekend night, giant fire, blasting country music. They see a fire across the pond and start yelling at you. It's terrible. It's such a beautiful serene place, why ruin it with beer and blasting music. The town or the dep should fix this, either close the gate, or have it only open during the day, either by putting a time lock on it or having a person do it. Or just drive up and bust them, do it a few times and the word gets out. When I was a drunken teenager the same thing happened, there was a party spot in the woods, they came a few times and busted people for drinking underage. The word got out and nobody was there at night anymore, no more beer cans everywhere, etc.
