The city's favourite bookstore is housed inside a block-long establishment of 32 rooms. With over three quarters of a million books, it is now one of the largest bookstores in the country. Exploring through its catalogue will take you through mazes of corridors and shelves covering every imaginable topic. Heck, you'll need a map to figure out where everything is and they actually have a map for that very purpose! For true bookworms, this is a sensory overload. It's not just about the sheer volume of books. It's the 19th century Dickensian atmosphere. The store is the crown jewel of the German Village neighborhood.

  • This place is like a Barnes and Noble meets Winchester Mystery House, in the best way possible. I loved it. I didn't plan enough time to be there. Seriously you can spend hours there. I loved the beautiful walk up to the door. It was magical.

  • What a quaint surprise! A lovely shop with soooo many books and gifts. Brick streets, lovely secret reading garden. The employees are so kind and helpful. I really enjoyed my visit. There are not many brick and mortar book stores around anymore and this is a hidden gem!đź’™

  • This is the most amazing place. The twisty-turning rooms are filled with music, adorable cards, jigsaw puzzles, and of course, books! There is nothing else like this store, and there is something for everyone. This is a place you MUST NOT MISS under any circumstances! I took my friend here for her first time tonight and she was amazed. Love it here!

  • Boyfriend and I came here more on a whim (we were in the area) and I didn’t realize what The Book Loft really was but WOW. Amazing stock, so much fun trying to find hidden gems and even just walking around the maze of hallways and stairs and books and crannies is an adventure in and of itself. They have absolutely everything, and most are very reasonably priced. We weren’t able to spend as much time there as we wanted because it was closing, but will definitely set aside 3-4 hours next time to really take everything in. Can’t wait to go again!

  • This is not only a bookstore, but it's a destination as well. The gardens outside the bookshop are beautiful and the maze of shelves that you find inside, as you pass from room to room, requires a map for you to navigate it effectively. (You're actually provided a map as you walk in.) It's easy to spend an hour here--it's probably the most impressive landmark in the German Village.
