Dedicated to Gefion- the Norse Goddess, the fountain catches your eye even with the stunning view of the harbour around it! The Gefionspringvandet consists of a sculpture of Gefion taking the reins of 4 bulls.
Even though the fountain is quiet a sight during the day, evenings truly make the place shine with the whole area basked in blue lights.
The sculpture was created by Danish artist Anders Bundgaard during 1897-1899 and still remains to holds its charm after all these years. The basin was added in the early 20th century and soon the place was opened to the general public. If you have a secret wish, toss a coin here to ask just what you want! This is a bold, dynamic, in-your-face fountain on the top of a small hill. I loved it. Even the rushing water is dynamic. Worth a visit while in Copenhagen. Google the myth about Gefion to fully understand the fountain. She had 4 sons who were magically transformed into bulls, it's a great myth & a great read. Fountain is not far from the Little Mermaid. Same hoards of selfie-stick-armed tourists at the Little Mermaid have now shifted to this wonderful fountain. So be prepared.
A beautiful and a picturesque place. A place really worth seeing. However, it is also a place crowded with tourists so better go there on a weekday rather than a weekend.
Abit out of the way from the city centre but if your near the mermaid then a good spot to see also
I love detailing on buildings and the like...I especially like the details on this one.
Beautiful place. It is nice if you can read a bit about the character 'Gefion' before visit it. The sculpture is so much more interesting if you know what it's means. ⛲
