All through the late 19th and the early 20th century, Denmark saw the works of the famous critic and scholar Georg Brandes who brought a fresh change to Scandinavian and European literature. The introduction of ‘realism’ and ‘naturalism’ helped shape a new era of modern writing.  Many of the new writers even ridiculed Georg’s work and reduced his writings to be labelled as immoral, unpatriotic and blasphemous. For those who looked up to him, the writer brought a progressive thinking to the world and encouraged free thinking and liberal ideas.

He is best known for his novels ‘A Politician’ and ‘Young Blood’.

Today, he is still remembered in the city through the Bronze bust located at Soelvgade and even though the monument is minimal, a visit here is recommended.
