Built in the memory of NFS Grundtvig, a famous Danish pastor, author, poet, philosopher, historian and politician, the Grundtvig Church is loved for its Expressionist style of architecture and was conceptualised by Jensen-Klint's design who incorporated traditional Danish village churches with traditional building techniques incorporated in its geometric forms and a hint of Gothic architecture that adorns its design.

The west facet of the place resembles a church organ and has a 49  meters bell tower. Do take time to see the nave of the church that was inspired from stepped gables, known to be traditionally used in Danish churches.

The interiors of the church shine due to its sheer Gothic influences and has two aisles and a nave. The high ceiling of the church truly adds to the church’s grandeur while the yellow brick construction stays true to its Danish roots.

When here, don’t miss out on the yellow brick construction- another highlight in itself. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Copenhagen itinerary 2 days.

  • A simple, quiet church Huge church with two organs - one of which is enormous. Such an uncluttered interior, unlike Catholic churches. Feels very tranquil inside. Exterior design is also amazing and the surrounding yard has similar architecture. Worth a visit.

  • Wasn’t sure if this visit would be worth the travel as it is a little bit out of downtown, but it totally is! The facade looks imposing and hermetic when you approach the building, but once inside, a feeling of calm and beautiful lighting overtake your senses. Incredibly effective use of scale, lighting, and simple material palette. Less is definitively more in this beautiful church.

  • I never felt so at peace and transposed to a different world as in this church. There is something about the shapes and the simplicity of it that makes you feel really emotional. It’s totally worth a visit, it’s something you’ll never forget!

  • Stunningly gorgeous church. Worth the trek out here. Additionally there’s a nearby cemetery that is beautiful to walk around in. And a couple little cafes located close by. It was a good little half day trip

  • Beautiful, yellow-brick Lutheran church - surrounding housing also lovely.
