Alcazar De Los Reyes Cristianos - Review

Stunning, lush gardens hug this palace-fortress that was built in 1328. A brilliant example of Moorish architecture , the Alcazar is a quadrangular building with 4 towers, three of which still stand tall. The walls and ceilings are adorned with intricate Stucco designs and the fortress also has the Royal baths that are quite interesting to see because of their elaborate setting and intelligent architecture. Don’t miss a visit to the Mosaic halls that house the Roman Mosaics discovered under Corredera square. The surrounding grounds are adorned with exotic plants and cooling ponds.

Alcazar De Los Reyes Cristianos, Cordoba Reviews

  • Awesome place. A must see in Cordoba. The fort itself is kinda unspectacular. Make sure to climb the stairs for a great view. The gardens are simply amazing. Thy cannot be missed. The irrigation is particularly interesting; here you can see it in use. Such a beautiful place, and very reasonable!

  • Excellent gardens - cool and relaxing to wander around and escape the heat. The Alcazar itself relatively underwhelming (especially as there's zero signage to tell you what you're looking at / what happened there), but some fun mosaics and a few good photo ops from the walls and tower. Can't argue with that for just €4.50 entry.

  • Very pretty and interesting, but a lot of people. Very crowded in some places. Gave up on going up the tower because of crowds. The gardens were absolutely beautiful though, big enough to get away from the worst of the crowds, and worth going to in their own right. Definitely worth going if you're in Cordoba but be prepared to be surrounded by other tourists!

  • Fascinating ancient palace. Would be improved by providing a small amount of explanation. Not everyone wants an audio guide. Toilets were hard to locate.

  • Great gardens. Make sure you visit the buildings first (left of entrance) before visiting the gardens. The buildings get very tight and busy. Take lots of water for hot days though there are drinking fountains.
