About Achilleion, Corfu
Built in the 19th century by the Empress of Austria (lovingly known as Sissy), the Palace was the result of the Empress’s love of Greek Mythology and hence the palace followed the theme of Achilles.
Following the death of her only Son, the Empress put her mind and soul into getting the palace built. After her death the palace was abandoned during the World Wars and after extensive repairs, today the place is a museum open for the Public.
- Detailed paintings form the 19th century
- Embellished paintings on the ceiling
- Majestic central staircase
- Beautiful painting of the Empress when she was 21
- The adjoining garden
Anyone who visits the place is sure to think they have stepped into Greek Mythology. The museum is perfect if you truly love art and history, merged seamlessly!

Achilleion, Corfu Reviews - Write a Review
Beautiful building with great views and good history. Gardens are very pretty and the views are excellent. Quite busy when we arrived but it was a grey day so the beaches had probably emptied. Only detraction was the you needed your ID card or passport to get an audio guide and we did not have them with us.
Absolutely lovely. . The guide we had was so passionate about her job. Was lovely to watch her with her hand gestures. Enjoyable experience.
Beautiful example of neoclassical architecture and, unfortunately, colonialism. Mostly a display of furniture and statues, and the paintings and frescoes are gorgeous. The gardens have a great view of Corfu to the North. I had to skip a few rooms due to the hoardes of tourists from buses. Ditch those tours and grab a free audio guide. You can hike up from a back path off the main road. Very steep in some places, but also paved and stepped in some sections.
A great place to taste the royal lifestyle. It's really amazing to see what money can buy and princess Sissi knew how to spend hers. Seeing all this opulence makes you wonder what were the poor workers thinking while building all this?
Stunning place. Rich with historical figures, architecture and artwork. Well worth a visit.
