Built in the 19th century by the Empress of Austria (lovingly known as Sissy), the Palace was the result of the Empress’s love of Greek Mythology and hence the palace followed the theme of Achilles.
Following the death of her only Son, the Empress put her mind and soul into getting the palace built. After her death the palace was abandoned during the World Wars and after extensive repairs, today the place is a museum open for the Public.
- Detailed paintings form the 19th century
- Embellished paintings on the ceiling
- Majestic central staircase
- Beautiful painting of the Empress when she was 21
- The adjoining garden
Anyone who visits the place is sure to think they have stepped into Greek Mythology. The museum is perfect if you truly love art and history, merged seamlessly!

Achilleion Reviews & Ratings
Well maintained historical building and gardens. Good views and interesting history. Entrance fee reasonable at €8. Can be busy if cruise ship tours visit at the same time!
Also called Sissi' Palace. One of the most beautiful historical monument in the Island. We can see Achilles statues and the painting of the victory of the Greeks in Troy. A walk throw the gardens is very pleasant. The Audio guide is definitely a must.
Lovely place to wander around - the spendour is a bit faded though and there’s not much to see inside. Just appreciate the building and grounds and imagine what it once would have been.
Beautiful and exotic palace owned by the Empress of Austria who was assassinated by an Italian anarchist. Wonderful statues in the gardens. You can get there by bus from the centre of Corfu Town.
Nice palace, about 40 min to visit. For me, gardens better than rooms inside. Great view on the sea and countryside, olive trees :)
