Located almost 30 kilometers to the west of Corfu town, the Angelokastro or the Castle of Angels is a Byzantine Castle located at a height of about 1000 feet above sea level. The place known for its ancient ruins which offer a panoramic view of the Ionian Sea. The name of the castle is one of controversy even though it is believed that after the death of Michael I KomnenosDoukas (who annexed Corfu to Epirus in 1214), Michael II KomnenosDoukas, fortified the whole area and gave it its present name.
Today, the beautiful stone architecture along with its hidden tunnels and well kept secrets is one of the most visited places on the Island. Take a walk along its history as you see the city-scape of Corfu from its regal towers and walls.
