I came to Corfu on a cruise and had two days to explore the city. The Old Fortress is inexpensive to visit and confers great views over Corfu Town, the wider island and across the water to the Greek mainland and Albania. The price of entrance includes a small museum, a scramble up the hill to the Faro (lighthouse) and gaining proximity to the yacht club. There are lots of historic artillery pieces, from as far afield as Venice, Russia and Britain.
A nice old fortress in the nice city of Corfu Town. This is the oldest fortress of two available in Corfu Town. The place is kept up to standard and it is worth a visit. For those who love history, this is a gem. The place is easily reached by car, public transport and by boat.
Stunning view from the top of the fortress. You can view whole of Corfu town from the top. Sea front view is unbelievable as well. Walk to the top is not easy and is really steep. The atmosphere of the old military structure is great but if you are looking for extensive information on the history of the place you may be disappointed. Perhaps you need to talk to locals for the details.
Good place to visit, beautiful panorama of the island. With only 6€ to entrance, and kids under 18 going in for free, it’s a must-see. Bear in mind that it’s a bit of a hike to get to the top and there’s not many places to escape the sun.
(++) A must see monument for the City especially when you visit the center. Close to the other places and the night view it amazing.
