Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral - Review

Built in 19th century, St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral is known as one of the most cathedrals in Cork. The regal structures with gothic architecture are known for its French influences while the statues show just how much the founder Burges adored everything French.

The cathedral is now one of three cathedrals in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

The beautiful stained glass, the statuary  and the interior designs is a heaven to sit amidst while listening to choir songs are sure to make you feel a part of the church itself.

Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork Reviews

  • Very nice Cathedral in centre on cork city. You cannot miss this place. Its got great views from there. It takes up fair amount of sky space its fairly big. Popular with Tourist's, family's friends or by self. Bring camera. Nice walk or cycle one of the Coca cola hire bikes see lot more of Cork city. Loads of Cycle lanes all around city. Saint Fin Barres is worth a look at.

  • Impossible to miss as it dominates Cork. About 15 to 20 min sustained walk from the city center (English Market). Peaceful place for prayer and meditation. As others pointed out, I find it sad that they make you pay to enter. I don't mind a donation if there is a broken column somewhere but I find it terrible that a till is placed at the entrance. It's literally turning a church into a tourist attraction. Again, I understand they have to raise money to maintain the building but the way it's done is detrimental to the main purpose of this church. Still, there are some benches on the right that you may access for free if you insist that you are there for... prayers! To visit once or to give it a skip if in hurry.

  • Very nice place to visit. Inside very beautiful. Some souvenirs inside. Staff very welcome. Only thing why I give 4 🌟 is that you need to pay entrance. I don't like to pay entrance to church. I will give for maintenance, for cleaning everything but I don't like to pay entrance.

  • Love old cathedrals and the history they represent. Not too big, not too small. 6 Euros and kids free. Happy to help fund the organ restoration. Nice to get away from the shopping crowds of Cork. And fun to get in touch with my Episcopalian roots.

  • Attended for Sunday worship. No provision for my disability and had to negotiate steep steps to receive Communion. Sound system awful so very hard to hear the readings though the pulpit was better.
