The Lamorna Cove Hotel, Cornwall Reviews - Write a Review
This is an amazing and beautiful getaway. We stayed here on our honeymoon and had the greatest view from our bedroom window, of the cove and the hotel swimming pool. There is a idyllic walk down some steps to the local Pub (The Lamorna Wink). This place is paradise.
A beautiful romantic setting. Stunning views of the sea and valley. A delightful place to relax and enjoy Cornwall.
Long drive bit worth it...the apartment was great... Views were outstanding.... We had a private garden and path to the pool.......would definetly come again. Off to last night at the proms later can't wait
The hill coming up to the hotel is awful, if your car isn't powerful, or you are carrying a heavy load, you might as well get out and let the car go ahead. The area looks run down, and is not lit at all, as a tourist area, I expected more, the staff on site, is rare, I only saw the cleaner and a man who "was looking after the place as the owner is on holiday" Regarding previous reviews, the "staff" are located in the staff apartment, bu the only way that you can request or ask for them is through EMAIL, which took half to a day to respond to our many concerns. The site states that WiFi is available, but the entire complex, uses ONE router, and a cheap booster, so that for the 3 day stay, I had 20 mins of WiFi, as I walked past the main router in the main reception. I ended up using sticky notes to request at the reception, as again, there is no staff to see around. The superior on site, looked unprofessional, and wasn't formal, claimed that "networking is his thing" as I recommended what to do, with the booster, which I am familiar with, and have worked with, I handed the booster to this man, and asked him to open up the interface, and ensure that the booster is actually connected to the router, and after a day, I came back to him, as he stated that "I've just moved it closer to the router" which was stupid, as the booster wasn't even connected to the router, after a check in the interface, it still wasn't connected. The apartments smelled smokey, and were musty in general, the windows were covered in cobwebs, and were full of dead insects, this place really needs to be inspected or cleaned regularly. Depositing the key upon departure, we were instructed to leave them in key safes left around the area, which didn't work with the codes left, so guests ended up leaving them in a cardboard box by the reception, clearly unsafe, considering the lack of staff. The only positive thing about this hotel, is the shower, depending on your apartment, and the pool. Get a proper WiFi system, and "being based in a rural area" isn't an excuse, yes the speed will be horrible, but a proper, commercial router will allow coverage. Prices were horrifying, related to our experience, going above the price of most 5 star hotels.
I chose this place as I thought it would be quiet, but you really are on your own here no staff on site apart from a couple of hours, no on site amenities, Nothing! The only way to contact anyone is by email, as there's no phone signal the Wi-Fi was appalling, ours didn't work at all, the router was unplugged as it was broken and stuffed behind the sofa, we had to connect to another apartments which was painfully slow I would hate to think what would happen in an emergency and you needed to call someone. I can see what the lamorna cove should have been, it was originally set up and the apartments were due to be sold, there was an onsite restaurant, treatment rooms and steam room. This would have been great, sadly the new owners have closed all that down. You now have ice cream in a locked freezer and no staff, apart from a few hours late afternoon. It could be such a lovely place, but it's damp, isolated with no on site amenities, you cant even get a coffee, just a price list but no staff and really bad Wi-Fi (remember dial up? Well that was better than this). It could be improved by opening all the closed down areas, putting a welcome pack in the room with local places to eat etc.cleaning the rooms, ours was grubby with dirty grout in the shower and a grubby sofa and carpets. We went wanting a quiet break, what we got was solitary confinement. The access is terrible too, lots of steps, some of the stone ones quite dangerous when wet. Nothing was signposted finding our dedicated parking space with no sign was impossible. Don't go here if you have walking difficulties as my husband does. We came home needing another holiday as we drove miles looking for civilisation. The pool was heated, but was just tepid so not warm enough for the UK. I felt the place was becoming run down and will probably only get worse. If you want a quiet break go somewhere else, this place is really mind numbingly boring because it's all closed down!
