Built in the years 1850 to 1851, Kaw Mission Historic Site is listed on the national Register of Historic Places. This was basically a missionary church and school where 30 Kaw boys lived from 1851 to 1854. However, the rise in the fee, i.e., $50 led to the school’s closure. Managed by the Kansas Historical Society, Kaw Mission State Historic Site today preserves a large number of Kaw items and furnishing dating back to the 19th century.
