The Rotary Jail Museum is one of the tourist attractions in Crawfordsville, Indiana and is 1 of the 3 remaining rotary jails in the United States. This is also the first spinning jail built in the United States that is still operational. This place doesn’t hold criminals any longer and has been transformed into a museum. The main attraction here is the massive gear beneath the cells that can still rotate, which has been a great example of innovation.

Rotary Jail Museum Reviews & Ratings

  • Absolutely fabulous trip into Indiana history.... Kudos to the warm and welcoming tour guide who went above and beyond in detailing the history of the jail. It was truly a learning experience and any one who has the chance needs to visit this fascinating jail and you even get to spend a moment behind bars! Highly recommended adventure!!

  • Haunted jail was super cool! The jugglers there were also very talented and entertaining

  • So much fun. Great tour guide. She made it fun for the kids too. My daughter was kind of scared of the jail, but she still had a great time

  • This is the only operating rotating jail in the country. It was cool to watch both floors moving at the same time. They do charge $5 but it is worth the donation.

  • It was a dark and stormy day. I arrived at the jail at 10 am opening time. It was on the main road in and easy to find. Parking was great and easy. The building looks small but very nice. I was greeted by one of the best guides ever. She knew her information and told it in a very entertaining manner. The jail was an architectural gem. Well kept and still moving. I saw all three floors. Awesome! If you are going anywhere near here you would be missing an amazing experience if you don't stop. Also a special thanks to my second guide. You are amazing.
