For outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, artists, and photographers the Mare Island Historic Shoreline would offer a unique experience. Spread across an area of 215 acres, there’s a lot that you can do here. It’s a hidden gem and the views from the top of Carquinez Strait and Mare Island Naval station are worth the short, easy hike. The cemented road trail would take you to the top where the ghost ship is. It is the best place to visit if you wish to know more about the history of the Mare Island. Yearly events like Flyway Festival, Nightmare Island, nature walks and many other such events help to raise money for the preserve. The place runs purely on donation so make sure to make a contribution while you are there.
