It is situated one mile (1.6 km) west of Dunfermline, east of Cairneyhill, astride the A994 (Main Street), at 56°03′51″N 03°29′47″W / 56.06417°N 3.49639°W. The village has mixed housing with large housing estates on the southwest and northwest ends. Most residents work either locally or commute to Edinburgh or Glasgow. It is two miles (3.2 km) north of the Firth of Forth and seventeen miles (27 km) from Edinburgh. The village sits on the main bus route X24, X26, X27 from Fife to Central Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station. Bus routes 8 and 9 go to High Vallyfield and Stirling.
