Located in the district of Nacascolo,The Horizontes Forestry Experimental Station, is popularly known as the Estacion Experimental Forestal Horizontes. It has a large and varied vegetation including shrub pastures and evergreen forests. This place initially was a cattle ranch, but in 1989 it was donated to Guanacaste Conservation Area and was made the headquarters of the Restoration and Forestry Program. A number of dry tropical trees are found here including Cortez Amarillo, Black Cortez, Ron-ron, Mountain almond, Tempisque , Nispero , Cedar, Guapinol, Guanacaste and Cocobolo.
