The ruins of the 14th century Barabati Fort on the banks of the Mahanadi River boasts of the carved gateways and the ramparts from the Ganga Dynasty. Surrounded by a water ditch, the fort now invites the visitors with its remnants of moat and the earthen mound, which was once a nine storied palace. The fort stands in close proximity with the Barabati Stadium and the Katak Chandi Temple. With an area of more than 102 acres, the Barabati Fort was fortified by sandstone and laterite walls.
