About Ba Na Hills, Da Nang

This hill station west of Da Nang is the local favourite weekend retreat. It was founded in 1919 by the French. Since accommodation is not upscale, or even well organised, the best way to visit is on a day trip. And though you can drive up the mountain, it's MUCH better to take the funicular which rises 400 metres. You can board the cable car at the address given in the tips and warnings. You'll be clicking pics of the landscape every second.

The attraction is nothing like Vietnam itself. At the top, you'll find a replica French Provincial Town, a funicular railway that rises further up the mountain, a luge track that'll take you downhill again. Close to the 27 metre tall Shakyamuni statue is the Debay wine cellar. The 7-hectare Le Jardind'Amour is a lovely flower garden; check out the terraced spring area. Then there's Fantasy Park, based on the novels of Jules Verne. There's the Alpine Coaster, the only double spiral roller coaster track in the country.

Landmarks to check out:

LinhUng Pagoda, Linh Chua LinhTu Temple, LinhPhongTu Tower, the Campanile, the Tombstone Temple, the Ba Shrine, and the TruVuTraQuan.

  • Really well done theme park, goes to show that Vietnamese can do big and impressive if they really try (foreign owned subsidiaries don't count), a real contrast to the slip-shod make-do quality you see everywhere else. Quite busy during lunar new year, but not insane. Go for the buffet, acceptable food, pretty expensive elsewhere in the park.

  • I wish it had been a bit more of an amusement park, but the weather was bad while I was there, so the luge ride was closed...that might have helped. Anyway! It was a cool kind of place, that's for sure. The fact that you went up the levels via cable car, the awesome French village, and the amusing indoor area were plenty to be getting on with. I didn't get to fully explore all the pagoda areas either, so I think a full day there isn't out of the question. ^^

  • It's a French look alike town. It would be good to check the weather condition before going to the hill, if not you would not be able the scenary and the outdoor rides. Sadly, I was there when the fog is pretty serious. Nonetheless, it a good photo stop.

  • The views are nice and the weather is good. For me, it was a great experience to visit Bana Hills Sun World but their food. The food was so expensive.

  • Pretty expensive for budget backpackers. The base however is already a breathtaker. Beautiful mountains with the chilliness of January winter. I could take enough photos of the base area and enjoy the moment.
