Dragon Bridge - Review

Sticking to the facts first: the six laned Dragon Bridge that spans the Han River is aptly named for its 666 metre length and 37.5 metre width, its $88 million cost, the 2,500 LED lights that illuminate it at night, the fact that it greatly boosted the city's economy by making travel to surround regions simpler… and the gigantic bridge-spanning dragon that actually breathes fire. The great yellow dragon has made the bridge a tourist attraction in its own right. At 9pm every evening, there's a great spurt of fire for two minutes, followed by a surge of water for three minutes. It's an impressive show.

Dragon Bridge, Da Nang Reviews

  • Not just a bridge but a tourist destination as well! Every Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 pm the bridge shuts down to traffic and a short show begins. You will want to be on East side (towards the ocean) of the dragon as that is which way the dragon is facing. Whether you want to be close up or at a distance is up to you. You can join hundreds of your new closest friends on the bridge and watch from there, or there are several boats that you can view the bridge from, or you can do what I did and head on over the the Da Nang Riverside Hotel, walk past the reception desk on the right side and go back to the elevator, go to the the 13th floor and you will exit at the Rooftop Chill Bar which overlooks the Dragon Bridge. Just order a beer or soft drink and you're good to go! If you are in Da Nang on a weekend you should probably see this. The show is very short, the dragon breathes fire for a minute, there's a pause, and then the dragon shoots water out of it's mouth, then it's all over and traffic starts flowing over the bridge again.

  • A bridge that lights up the night Da Nang. On Saturday night there is a show where the dragon head breathes fire (although not much or for very long). The dragon changes color during the night. But even during the day the bridge is marvelous and offers great views of the Han River and the city.

  • Let wake up and enjoy the dragon brigde in the sunset. It’s so wonderful!!! Dragon bridge will be the symbol of Danang, a city flying up and making legend

  • One of the bridges taking you across to the beach, it's not particularly interesting during the day. There are nice views both ways along the Hàn River if you walk onto the middle of the structure on a clear and sunny day, but the dragon design -although very clear - is quite ordinary close-up. Once night kicks in however it really becomes something else, whether you stand north or south of the bridge structure, or approach from Nguyễn Văn Linh Road. The real challenge is getting close to the thing, which'll mean having to cross roads and braving a possible collision with one or several scooters.

  • Nice bridge to look at during the nighttime. Not sure if it's a popular place since there wasn't many people walking around when I was here. Limited colors on the bridge.
