The knobby Knees Trail through the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge is a well-marked moderate woodland trail that can be accessed through the paved walking trail running around the park. The abundance of the trees provides great shade along the boardwalk. The park offers bird-watching, wildlife encounters, jungle hiking and also fishing, kayaking and canoeing in the river. The hardwood landscape favours the habitation of many a wild creatures that come for breeding, hibernating and residing. By the cypress studded lake, you will find a plethora of Wood Ducks, River otters, Raccoons and the elusive Rafinesque’s Big-eared Bats. More than 275 species of birds are found here including waterfowls, swamphens and songbirds. You can encounter animals like White-tailed Deer, Alligator, Cottonmouth Snake, Coyote, Bobcat and around 400 types of butterflies.
