Batasia Loop - Review

Batasia Loop is a semicircular, gigantic railway loop made mainly for the tourists. It is situated about 5 kilometers away from Darjeeling below the Ghoom Station. The loop contains the memorials of the Gorkha soldiers who laid down their lives during the Independence Struggle in 1947. It was first started in 1919. It is a marvel of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The toy train crossing the Batasia Hill across the Batasia loop is a beautiful sighte to watch. It makes a 360 degree turn off the straight course. The loop reduces the sudden steepness of the hill and the hill steps on the sides of the loop making it a beautiful place to hang around.

The best way to view this place is of course by toy-train. The toy train makes stops for ten minutes at the Batasia Loop so you can see the amazing scenery that surrounds you. There is a small market near the loop as well. The loop along with its surrounding is so beautiful that the passerby is inclined to take pictures so be sure to keep your cameras handy.

  • One more opportunity to salute our army for their great deed. A good place to hang around with family. It has well maintained vegetation. Being around the periodically visiting toy trains is a different experience. On clear days it offers amazing views all around. About 1 to 1.5 hours can be passed.

  • It is a 360 degree spiral railway track in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and is a popular tourist destination. Right in the centre of the Batasia Loop The War Memorial are an erected to commemorate the Gorkha soldiers. A panoramic view of Darjeeling city can see from here. At here if you want to get a closer look of the Kanchenjunga mountain then spend a little money and see through the telescope. If you want then can hire their traditional dress to take a photograph.

  • Beautifully made, it is a small loop for the toy train that goes through darjeeling. Best when visited early in the morning. It has very picturesque scenery and the greenery has a very calming effect. Also a great place for recording a time lapse. 😉

  • It's a good place for having a good look at Darjeeling hills. You can also get dressed in traditional attire here for a little money. It also has a paid public toilet.

  • Its a nice place near Darjeeling on the route of toy train. The toy train stopped here only for 10mins so we didn't got enough time to explore this place. However the glimpse of this place was beautiful. It better to go to this place separately and not with Toy train to see the place properly.
