Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling Reviews
Never try to skip this place if ur are on visit to Darjeeling. Its a underrated place. There are some many things to know about mountaineers. Its located adjacent to zoo park an can be seen both in a day. Hotels are available opposite to Institute and food is not a problem.
Kids can do wall climbing here. Also, the museum is quite resourceful having plenty of information about the previous climbing expeditions done by various countries. One can surely gain a lot of knowledge from it. Food stalls are also there.
Mountaineering is an art and science and not merely physical activity. It is one of the finest sports but to practice it without training and technique is deliberate suicide. Training promotes caution and clear thinking. It avoids fatigue and danger and improves safety. A mountaineer must not only learn climbing but also understand the mountains.... The objective of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is to encourage and promote mountaineering amongst youths of the country. HMI aims to train enterprising members of the community, who in turn develop mountaineering activities in the Himalayas as a sport and as a scientific and entrepreneurial pursuit in field of adventure.
HMI is an unique institute. Plenty of things of interest about mountaineering equipment, people and the accessories. A section about Mt Everest expedition is very n interesting
Must visit with Guide to understand history. We visited with Guide Reshma, explained all 3 places in depth. Charge Rs 100 per place, means Rs 300/- for full zoo exposure. Request to take help of guide to get proper explanation, layout and to save time. It takes hardly 2-2.5 hours with proper guidance.
