Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Darjeeling Reviews
This is the most beautiful place in Darjeeling. A nice place to visit throughout the year. The place has also an zoological park which is the major attraction. You can find animals like Tiger, panda, snow leopard, bear, lion, cheetah, coala, and lot more. There is an entry fee to visit the place and is around 50 Rupees when I visited this place during summer of 2017. The institute has its own museum which has a good collection of things related to mountaineering.
Very good place to visit especially with young kids. There are a lot of animals to see. Special attractions are Himalayan wolf, snow leopard, Royal Bengal tiger and red panda. There is also an institution which gives you an idea about the mountain activities named HMI(Himalayan Mountaineers Institute). There is a museum where you can see a lot of things which was used in different attempts. You can also attempt a mock rock climbing. Unfortunately I couldn’t do it. Rock climbing is closed on Tuesdays.
Saw Red 🐼 Panda, leopard, black 🐻 bear, but all were asleep. It seems they are active only in the mornings and evenings. Rest time they sleep. Variety of birds and pheasants. White parrots. Blue 🐑 sheep, deer of many types, yak, can be found there. They are in huge cages.
Nice place to visit with kids. With my family we enjoyed very much. Red panda wow very nice. Great bear walking just in front of you. Birds various type with colour. Must visit place.
The zoo was opened in 1958, and an average elevation of 7,000 feet (2,134 m), is the largest high altitude zoo in India. It specializes in breeding animals adapted to alpine conditions, and has successful captive breeding programs for the snow leopard, the critically endangered Himalayan wolf and the red panda. The zoo attracts about 300,000 visitors every year. The park is named after Padmaja Naidu (1900–1975), daughter of Sarojini Naidu. The zoo serves as the central hub for Central Zoo Authority of India's red panda program and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
