Decatur is a city in, and county seat of, DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. With a population of 20,148 in the 2013 census, the city is sometimes assumed to be larger since multiple zip codes in unincorporated DeKalb County bear the Decatur name. It is an intown suburb of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, and its public transportation is served by three MARTA rail stations. Decatur's official motto is "A city of homes, schools and places of worship." Prior to 2000, its motto was "A city of homes, schools, and churches." Residents frequently refer to the unofficial motto of the town, "Decatur, where it's greater."


Decatur is a neighbour to the city of Atlanta. Most of the town is a residential zone but there are plenty of places where you can have fun or are important tourist spots. Visitors often check out the Agnes Scott College Historic District, the Winona Park and the Clairemont historic District. Tourists wanting to learn the history of Decatur must pay a visit to the Fernbank Natural History Museum and the DeKalb History Center. For a little light-hearted trip, check out the Original Waffle House and Museum. It resembles the Avondale Estates Waffle House and includes old objects from there. There are plenty of musical and theatrical performances at various venues in the city. One of the best ways to discover Decatur is by riding a bike through town.
