The Chetwode Hall which is more widely known as the Indian Military Academy was named after the legendary founder of the academy, Field Marshall Sir Philip Chetwode. He founded this hall and academy in the year 1930.

It is spread over a vast area and boasts of having every modern amenity for the Indian Army at par with any other developed nation of the world. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Dehradun. The Chetwode Hall is located around 8 km away from the main city of Dehradun.

Another branch is the new addition of the Central Library. It comprises of thousand of books and a separate multimedia segment also. The main attraction is the Chetwode War museum where videos of war and other old gallantry activities are played. There are also many war related remnants and objects of historical importance. The most important amongst these is the pistol of Pakistani Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, who had surrendered in front of the Indian brave hearts during the Indo-Pak War. Apart from this you can also experience live the procedures of making the weapons. There is also a shooting demonstration room and a 18-holes FRIMS golf course.

• DO NOT touch any of the objects in the museum.
• Early winter is the best time to visit.
