The Wadia Institute of Himalayan geology is an autonomous association of the department of Science & Technology. It was originally established as a small two roomed destination in 1968. This was later shifted to Dehradun in 1976 with the name of Institute of Himalayan Geology. It was later named after its founder Prof. N.K.Wadia, given his contributions towards the geology of the Himalayas.
This was set up with the vision of putting light on the knowledge about the earth process and ways of healthy and standard living in the Himalayas. The mission of this institute was to bring out mysteries behind the ways of mountain buildings, and improving the geodynamic process of climate variability, natural resources, evolution of life and remedies to natural hazards and other problems.
It is working very efficiently and is carrying out various research projects in the field of geodynamics, exploration strategies of the unutilized mines and minerals of the valley to help in the economic development of the people in the Himalayas, taking efforts towards discovering newer and more effective remedies of natural hazards and other accidents and most importantly to serve as an information center for database on the geological facts of the Himalayas.
