Barrel Oak Winery, Delaplane Reviews - Write a Review
This review is about the general experience and the lighter wines taste testing option. Positives: Pet friendly place to have a picnic and drink their wine. Negatives: 1. Bougie as hell extension of Clarendon. If you are looking for D.C. service and a pretentious crowd, this is your place. 2. We waited at least 20 minutes before a server even asked us what we were there for. It took just as long to be served a glass of wine. 3. The wine is gross. Only the Bow House white was decent. The rest have a very cheap, watery, and at times rotten taste (think a bad Zinfandel). If Zinfandel is your thing, that's cool, just save yourself the time and money and buy one at Giant. 4. Good luck figuring out where to go, how it works if it is your first time. Understaffed and apparently over-worked. 5. Parking was a challenge, but not really their fault. This doesn't factor into my 2-star rating, but just FYI.
I would definitely recommend this place. We arrive there at sunset and enjoyed some wine and beer. There is outdoor seating with a lot of fire pit to keep warm. We was allow to bring our dog on the outdoor seating. At this season the tree are changing colour.
Never going back. They kicked out a service dog in front of everyone despite legal issues. If you like dogs, wine or love someone with a disability, you won't support these clowns. The owner even said he enjoys ripping off the "sheep" aka his customers. If you can go elsewhere (plenty of other legal wineries) go to them instead.
I have never been more offended by racism and hatred than I was this evening at this winery. My good friend who has type 1 and her dog (her dog is used to notify her of an attack and is her service dog) were kicked out of the bar after a fellow patron attacked our table. BOW, instead of telling the other table to leave us alone, called the cops on us because we were forced to tell the patron off. This patron was calling us every name in the book because he hated dogs. Let it be known that BOW puts itself out to be dog friendly. They are only dog friendly when they have to be and when it makes them money. As an attorney in DC, their actions were off the charts. They kicked out a young girl and her service dog just so they did not have to kick out their only black patrons. It was racism. I just hope that one person reads this and goes to another winery. I will never give BOW another dollar after years of loving the establishment. I am a VA wine pass member and will be reporting this to them also. In additon, I have filed disputes on all charges that were made this evening as we were thrown out without being able to finish our wines. I used to love this winery, but today, when the rudest owner would not even shake my hand when I was leaving out of respect, I learned my money will be better spent elsewhere. BOW=Trash
First and foremost, they are dog friendly which is great. The wines had bold flavors and great selection. Will definitely return. They also support the Military!
