Gandhi Smriti or Gandhi Remembrance is the place where the Father of Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi spent his last 144 days of life. This site houses a number of articles associated with Gandhi's life and death that are put in display for public view. This was the same place where Gandhi lived in his last days before he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. It was in 1971 that the Government of India acquired this house and turned it into a Gandhi Smriti. Inside this house you can have a look at few of the belongings of Gandhi and photos of last few days of his life that have been preserved and put on display. Originally it was the house of B.D. Birla. The room where Mahatma Gandhi lived and the prayer ground where he held a mass congregation every evening has been preserved well so that the Father of the Nation becomes better known by the people who haven’t lived during his times.
