Situated right opposite to the Parliment House, the Gurudwara Raquab Ganj is of utmost religious importance to the Sikh as well as the Hindu communities. There is a story behind the establishment of Gurudwara. When Guru Tegbahadur was beheaded in Chandani Chowk, no one could dare to pick his sacred head and body. But with wish of akal purakh, swear storm swept through the city. Under the cover of dark blanket Bhai Jaita ji managed to escape with the sacred head to Punjab. However, the Guru’s body remained there only. One of his devotees Bhai Lakhi Shah at his personal risk managed to bring away Guru Sahib’s body to his house here. Thus Sikhs were able to build a magnificent Gurdwara to keep up the memory of the great Guru who made supreme sacrifice for the freedom of worship, belief and expression. Today this Sikh temple has a modern building made up of white marble surrounded by a beautiful garden. A visit to this Gurudwara is a must for those who wish to understand the culture of Sikh community in Delhi.
